Last summer when I started my Instagram, @fwordsonly, I posted on it almost every day. I was abroad, made my own dinner most nights, and had the right set up to take a picture and post. Honestly, all made possible by the fact that it stayed late until midnight in Copenhagen and the light while I made and ate dinner was perfect. This summer, I’ve posted a lot less than last summer and during the school (which is shocking – maybe I should be busier?) It’s been nice to not think about posting as often – especially since I started this blog and have been enjoying this outlet so much.
Speaking of being busier, I most definitely will be starting very soon, so I might have to pull back on my FF deadlines, but I still have a few more weeks to have some fun with this. I can’t believe its been 10 weeks since I started this blog! I’ve been posting less, but thinking and writing much more. I promise, that doesn’t mean I’m not eating all the good food! Here’s a post about 10 Things I (h)Ate this summer! Of course – 10 Things I Ate not 10 Thing I Hate because who could possibly hate eating delicious food?! Most definitely not me.
(eats in chronological order)
1. Avocado Toast

Santa Barbara, CA
Nothing more classic than coming home to California for GOOD avocado. I’m sorry, California avocados are just the best, and I will never back down from this. This looks to be a nice midday snack I was eating. Avo mashed on some sliced and toasted whole wheat bread. I probably sprinkled some sea salt and red pepper flakes on there, too! Oh baby.
2. Buttermilk Biscuit w/ butter and homemade jam

San Francisco, CA
Biscuits for the table! A worthy substitute for pancakes for the table at any brunch! I ate this delicious buttermilk biscuit with jam and butter at brunch for my sister’s birthday in San Francisco at Jane on Filmore! I am such a sucker for a good, flaky biscuit.
3. Frozen Greek Yogurt w/ Baklava Crumbles

San Fransisco, CA
Sorry not sorry for two pics from one day! SF eats are too good not to share. Especially this one. Pretty much every time I visit my sister, we go eat at Souvla. The salads and wraps are amazing but the frozen greek yogurt makes my heart sing. It’s cold, gooey, nutty, tart, and sweet. Ah. I want one now.
4. A S’more

New Haven, CT
My friend, Olivia, started a summer s’more series, so every few weeks all the randoms in New Haven over the summer would get together in her backyard, roast some marshmallows, and enjoy some s’mores. This picture was from round 1 of s’mores and lives up to every summer s’more vibe.
5. Cheese Board

New Haven, CT
One weekend, my friend Sophie came to New Haven to visit. For her, it is was a brief escape from home life and for me it was a wonderful day with a friend. It made me realize how much free time I had in New Haven without all the stress of school. It’s unreal – I have a whole new appreciation and understanding of that place. We did some (actually) productive planning, sat on cross campus and just talked, watched tv and chilled, and then sat outside for dinner with a glass of wine and a cheese plate. What else could I possibly want out of a summer Sunday?
5. Salad & Roasted Veggies

New Haven, CT
A date night dinner with my dearest friend, Olivia. We roasted some squash and made a salad with grilled chicken, tomatoes, apple, pepitas, and I’m sure a bunch of other delicious vegetables from my Misfits Box I am forgetting right now. This was the start of our post lift dinners. Cooking, sitting, talking, and refueling.
6. Summer Beet Salad

Santa Barbara, CA
Okay, I know I already posted a whole blog about this salad, but I’ve made it quite a few times since because it’s so good! Do not sleep on this salad!! Here is the recipe. It’s roasted beets, goat cheese, avocado, arugula, little gem lettuce, tomatoes, and onions! I would eat this entire platter full. I made a version last night. I’ll probably make another tomorrow.
7. Buttermilk Biscuits (again)

New York, NY
I will not apologize for more biscuits! Another round of biscuits for the table at brunch! This time it was in New York visiting two of my lovely friends, Ariel and Emma. Wow, my love for a fresh buttermilk biscuit is really coming to life here on FF10. How could I not love this warm, flakey, buttery, bread/pastry situation? It’s impossible. I love my biscuits with just a lil schmear of butter.
8. Passionfruit Iced Matcha

New Haven, CT
Lowest quality picture for the highest quality bougie coffee shop drink. This drink stole my freaking heart this summer (not to mention my $$ too). The Passionfruit Iced Matcha is a seasonal drink at Fussy Coffee. The barista recommended it with coconut milk and I was sold. It’s like drinking a tropical drink by the pool but still in a coffee shop doing work – it’s sort confusing but also incredible. I would trek my ass up the canal street at least once a week for an afternoon with my computer for some work and this drink. I did not have enough of these. I will be back sooooon.
(drinks absolutely count as eats.)
9. Salt and Onion Bagel w/ Scallion Cream Cheese

New Haven, CT
Why do I not eat bagels more often? UGH. Something to keep in mind. Especially freshly baked bagels from Olmo. I celebrated my last Monday of work in New Haven with a fresh salt and onion bagel with scallion cream cheese. It did not suck. I could have easily eaten another. I walked by Olmo (the bagel shop) every Monday morning on my way from therapy to my office. Yes, Monday morning therapy at 7:45am. We do what we have to do for mental health! Do not sleep on yourself & what you need! Anyways. Every Monday I thought “wow I should stop and get a bagel for breakfast” but I just never did. Still wondering what is wrong with me tbh. So, after two months of early Monday mornings and walking by Olmo on my way to work, I got the damn bagel!
10. Iced Dancing Soul w/ Oat Milk

San Fransisco, CA
I wish Philz was everywhere! Another SF visit staple is a trip to Philz Coffee. I usually go straight for the Iced Philtered Soul (ofc introduction courtesy of my sister – my coffee guru). This visit I went rogue. I wanted to branch out. Not always the best idea when you know what works, but I knew coffee + Philz was unlikely to disappoint me. The Dancing Soul is not too rogue as it tasted very similar to the Philtered Soul, but I enjoyed it immensely on our walk back from CorePower to my sisters apartment.
I’m glad I have this platform to binge post these pictures that I either didn’t have time to post or didn’t deem “worthy” enough photos for the gram. I can’t wait for ALL the more eats, pics, posts, and FFs.
With empowerment, Natasha
